Reference for Anatomical and Figurative Art

#21

I’m glad, Rebecca, that you like drawings scanned by myself from the book. I hope they’ll be useful for you and readers of this forum.

Unfortunately modellers, creating models of people (especialy women  ) not oftenuse books on anatomy. It is pleasure that on this forum there are topics like this, where people can find and share links on body’s anatomy.

It would be sad, if the term “anatomical” became disdainful in 3D graphics. About it wrote Burne Hogath in his outstanding book “Dynamic Anatomy”.

p.s. I’ll try to scan more drawings from this and other books

Royal Ghost,

Thanks. I think it’s funny that with so much reference out there in the world, modelers don’t use it ~ is that really true? I find that kind of hard to believe…but, I’ve seen many models that could definitely benefit from a bit of reference.

As they say…computers don’t do everything…yet.

Cheers,

Guys,

I am excited to announce that my friend Hong Ly has just launched his website,

which contains some great tutorials as well as artist features and Hong’s own work. Most importantly, it contains photo sets ~ great pictures of nude models whom Hong has photographed himself. Additionally, he has hi~res figurative reference photos which may be used as textures for 3D modeling. You will also find links back to the Anatomy Forum there.

Please stop by to check it out!

Cheers,

Has anyone ever tried the regular stock photo agencies? You have to register an account to download low-res images without the watermark, but they’re usually good enough for reference.

Getty Images

Corbis

Creatas

Just tossing that out there.

One of the co-authors and I have chatted a great deal (often about our philosophy of figurative artwork) and he’s helped me with some photography tips and such.
