Recreating the Wormhole lensing effect from Interstellar

#1

After watching interstellar I set out to try and recreate the wormhole and/ or the black hole in Maya. Now in the movie they used complex equations and whatnot to achieve the effect. However, being that I don’t have the know how of how to get and implement that information into software, I decided that there had to be an alternate way.

After weeks of trying different things and various setups with substantial yet unimpressive results, I finally figured out an easy way to achieve the lensing/warping effect. Let me know what you think.

Here’s a video with a busy background of space

Here’s another with a simple star field (low res background)

Here are a few stills I made:

That is impressive, it really made me want to watch Interstellar again tonight! Is it a script you run or is it all through shaders?

Pocketmoneky, thank you responding. It’s all materials and shaders. nothing complicated.
