Hey guys
i work on a gold ring and i’m totally frustrated because it looks absolutely not realistic enough because the reflections looks ehm… strange :sad: i use maya 2015 and mentalray.
her is how it looks so far:
EDIT: after correcting the gamma and switch to linear workflow, it looks better, but i have still problems with the edge reflections…
my setup:
- mia_material_x
- IBL for global reflections
- Arealight for soft shadows
- camera with an exposure_photographic
my shader settings:
i try to use the fresnel, but then i get an even shittier result…
have anybody an idea?

. Not sure what you mean by strange reflections. Are you going for a gold with blurry reflections? Otherwise I would make it a bit less blurry. You could also try adding some caustics. Anyway my 2 cents
