Real DOF in Nuke..Not Zdepth?

#1

Hi all,

(very newbie)

Is there a way to create DOF inside of nuke’s 3D space using Nuke’s Camera?

For example,
Create a camera & 3 Geo cubes.
Place each cube 100 units apart in Z space.
First cube is close to camera and last cube is 300 units away.

In Maya, etc… this setup is all you need to render out an image with DOF.

In Nuke, it seems that it needs a Zdepth pass.

I don’t understand that?
If I have “real” Objects in “real” z space, why do I have to create a Z depth channel?

If it CAN be done in Nuke, can anyone PLEASE tell me how to do it?

Thanks in advance,
Lou

On the ScanlineRender node, under the MultiSample tab. If you increase the samples and focus diameter you can do DOF - you’ll also need to increase the stochastic samples as well to improve the quality. The focal distance is determined by the camera.

Be careful because it’s slow as slow can be.

Ok THANKS! I am going to give it a try. :applause:
