rayfire collision problem

#1

hi guys,

In my scene i have made the object to fragment based on impact…

i created a box for collision…

initially everything is fine…but after editing the shape of the box…collision is not happening…properly…

any solution…

prakash…

Try to ResetXForm edited object.

I cannot find the “based on impact” feature in this great plugin, Im traying the demo, can anybody help me?

#4

1.In Fragmentation tab–>Fragmentation Type–> Select "Relative to Bomb/Impact
2.In Physics Tab --> Phyx Demolition Properties -->Turn On “Demolish Geometry”

#5

thanks a lot particlefx, I love the instant feedback of this amazing site :slight_smile:

I cannot manage to do the “impact based fracture” with rayfire; Im trying simply this,

Create a ground, create a box above, and a sphere above all which is going to fall freely by gravity, I want the sphere to frature the box without having to prefrature it, is this possible?

#7

It should be possible with the interactive demolition options in the physX demolition properties tab! Have a look in the online help. greetz

It works. You can only prefecture based on impact/bomb when you simulate and bake the animation. Simulating alone will not work. Need to use the bake function.

Also, don’t forget that rayfire works within real world scale and if its not fracturing, it probably doesn’t have a reason to fracture.

You need to give it a reason too. Try dropping a cone point down, this should fracture regardless of the size because of the stress on the point.

Thanks for your help guys, but i cannot make this simple set works, Im doing the following,

ground -> unyielding objects
box -> impact objects
material-concrete
fragmentation- relative to bomb/impact.

cone-> impact objects

physical options

Physical engyne -> PhysX
PhysX demolition properties->Interactive Demolition options->demolish geometry -> Yes

Finally using the bake animation button, the box is not broken at all. Any sug?

Decrease Solidity property, this property globally defines material solidity.
If your object fall on another object doesn’t mean that it have to be demolished.
RayFire will decide should it be demolished or not depending on defined material, solidity property and collision force.
So, there are three ways to demolish object:

  1. Position it higher or give it some initial imulse so collision force will be high enough.
  2. Set some fragile materials like Brick
  3. Decrease Solidity until object will be demolished during simulation.

Thanks for your reply Mir, and congratulations for your great tool, changing solidity makes my cone breaks when hiiting the big box, but I want exactly the opposite, that is getting the box breaking.

I suggest you to make a tutorial about this issue becouse it is not evident at all.

#12

Then just make the cone a metal material and the box concrete or what ever. As allready said Rayfire behaves like reality metal will never break with physx. And there is a tutorial on mir´s site - its the demolition basics one. greetz

#13

Thanks ld50, this is exactly which I was looking for :slight_smile:

#14

I disagree that there should be a tutorial about this sort of stuff. If you read the tutorials and watch the Videos on the rayfire site they cover all of this, and there are people out there telling you how to do it.

People need to start taking initiative instead of just assuming things don’t do what they want it to do. Its just understanding that rayfire works in real world conditions, If things aren’t fracturing, they need to be dropped from a higher position, or made out of a more brittle material.

Give rayfire a reason to fracture and it will. there is a video that covers this aspect.

#15

Exactly thats why i told him its already covered in one of mir´s tuts and he have to be physicaly correct with materials aso. But you are right there´s a lot of lets say kind of lazy people out there which are not that much into R&D and more into give me everything on the silver spoon. Dont take it too serious and RTFM :wink: greetz

Hi Ld50,

I want to thanks everybody in this forum who has help me with this issue, Im new to rayfire which is a power tool but very complex indeed, and not always clear to find the right way to do something, I suposse many others has similar issues so these posts probably are usefull to many people which are not lazy, neither engineers; only day to day animators traying to get their works ready in time.

cheers

Hey sekelela,

as i said dont take it too serious it wasnt my intention to be rude!
But you know as i do there are a lot of people out there who never read the manual and read or watch all the available edu stuff but they immediatly start asking a lot of questions which are totaly basics and are answered very well by the manual/tutorials which are available. Im no engineer either and im using rayfire for maybe 10 days now and till now the manual and the tutorials by Mir and Hristo gives me great input about the plugin. Nevertheless i hope u suceed with your tasks and have fun - greetz
