Races of Middle Earth - Character - Remi
Thanks guys…using some catapillar and lizard and elephant photos for refs…just to get some ideas flowing…i’m liking the colors too…i’m glad you did now I don’t need to change them…no time to update right now but come sunday I should have some pretty good progress on this little guy…well…until sunday then:thumbsup:
What a funny little character remi!! ![]()
I’ll be watching for your update this weekend…:wip:
fetus
Nothing to do with my entry…just wanted to give the guys/gals at cgtalk an award for being so kick ass
great remi! maybe you could reduce the “wrinkles” on his nose a little. I would also prefer a blue/lightblue texture, but green/lightgreen looks fine to, just a personal preference
btw, this is the only cartoon entry I’ve seen in this challenge :surprised
nevermind, work work work :wip:
thanks guys…didn’t get to work on the little guy this weekend…superbowl stuff…and yeah fellah…I think i will give the blue colors a try and see how it turns out…just a simple hue change in photoshop should work…Thanks again…![]()
wishing uv’s were viewable in opengl…whine
Hi remi…:wavey:
I have a thought or two on this cute little fellow. As for textures or skin finish are you thinking caterpillar,or lizard tough thick type skin?
Also I think as a Hobbits pet he is very nice,but.......................................How about a surprise,another demension or darker side to this otherwise Cute lil' guy. How about some hidden killer type teeth. Something more fierce and a added demension to the overall character bios could be just what the Doctor ordered.Keep the nice cute guy as he is,but it would be interesting to have another side to him as well.
Anyways just a thought,I like him,keep up the texturing and finishing touchs.:thumbsup: :beer:
I think a laser guided missle turret and cyborg arms would fit perfectly…
tho I never read the books :rolleyes:
just kidding, I like that he’s nce…not enough nice in the world
Virtuoso…HI:wavey:
I was thinking maybe a pig’ish quality of skin with some caterpillar type markings and some wrinkles like an elephant…:shrug:
As for a mean side…i thought about that…making a whole different one…kind of a magui - gremlin type a thing…great idear…
If I have time I will make it so
King…yeah…a mech pet:thumbsup:
:surprised
Ohhh it is so cute… does he glow in the dark tooo?
Just kidding. Very nice concept, it is good to see you keep your style in mind. The texturing is very good too, tho this liitle hair seem to be a little trouble.
Saslite is a little hard to use, there is a lot of options, tho thei are quite limited, and the render takes too long, and then you see that the problem persists. Did you already try to make this hair with polys like menithings tutorial?
keep up the great work.
Very cute man … Lookin good, definately could see a hobbit running around with one of these ![]()
@Slot…that’d be cool I think…tid bit of a glow…hehe. Thanks
Saslite…uhhhggg…gives me headaches…think i’ll give that poly style a try for him…:shrug:
@Leigh…if you need a different backround PM me with the RGB values…hehe…just wanted to sound like lild for a sec…:surprised
@Ckerr812…Thanks:thumbsup:
Problems: I’m not to good at texturing yet…and i’m having some problems…I tried to do the head uv as a spherical map on the z axis…used UVImaginator to save it and painted in photoshop…applied it in modeler…loaded in layout and there was all sorts of stretching…so now I made the top of the head a different map and that worked…now i’m running into problems with the ‘face’…the attached image is of the face mapped spherically on the z axis…any help is appreciated…did that make sense…:wtf:

Have you tried the technique where you use a morph to manipulate the mesh so its lying flat to the z plane and then do a planer UV map creation?
Its really easy you just grab the area you want to map cut & paste back in place to seperate it then create a morph target like “face_UV” (just like a facial expression) and then you can manipulate the mesh so that the face is laid out flat like you would want it for your UV. Then you stay in the morph and “shoot a picture” of you UV from that and voila! you have a really workable UV map. You then go back to base mode and merge points back together.
Sometimes you have to go back in and weld a few points but its not that bad That’s how I unwrapped the snakes that were intwined around my weapon for texturing. Otherwise I’d be bald from frustration right now. Message me if you have an questions about it.
Good Luck!![]()
