Races of Middle Earth - Character - O'Dubtaig

OK, so I’m into the fray with the promise of newish hardware (hardware that might actually work properly) finally being delivered on Tuesday after some gimboid cocked up my address (it’s actually been in Sheffield since Thursday).

For the concept. It’s a tree dwelling type of creature, somewhat evolved along a different line to most hominids (not even sure it counts as a hominid).

It’s very much ape like (or gorilla like even) but also has aspects in common with a big cat like a cougar. It inhabits the Mirkwood Forest and previously has been wary of other creatures (especially the spiders) but recently has been bold enough to make attacks on the Wood Elves’ food supply and especialy on the wine. The Wood Elves have adjusted to a certain degree but it appears these creatures are as sly and cunning as a Hobbit with a ring  and dissapear easily into the forest only to reappear at a most unexpected place.

They have short but powerful back legs for leaps and have long and muscular forearms with opposable thumbs on their bigass hands. Their teeth are sharp and damn is they hairy. They are, however, surprisingly quiet and graceful and show an intelligence that belies their somewhat hideous appearance.

Here’re the basic concepts (try not to laugh now :p)

Basic Concept

Different Proportions

I think you need to reduce the poly count… And how about a shaded shot?

Anyway I like it! Good start!

Good storyline and foundation for the beast you plan on creating. With that the model should be something very nice.Better stay out of the Mirkwood forest, sounds a bit dangerous.
