super! I hope I texture mine half as well. Very nice!

#326

oke some comment for you… lol:)

dudeguy was right…about the detail…

there could be some more tones of rust collor

but for the leather part…now that you say it ,it looks reallyleatherish hehe…
but dont worry…

give it some more shiny spots…and at some places the armor is a little to dark (grey tone) to be a good metal i think…

maybe some crack lines in the rust… and than make the crack linesa little shiny…

#327

Lookin’ great can we get a veiw of the whole model in WIP ? That rust is spankin though!!

About the leather look.
Why not add some more metal to the rust? And maybe some bright highlights. The grey alone is not enough.

#329

Righto, update time! :bounce:

Thanks for the comments

And here is the armour, with more colours added, and stronger contrast, also slightly different lighting.

Crits most welcome!! In fact, they are MANDATORY.

#330

very nice

i feel guilty telling u what to do but:
on the shoulder pad where it is sliced perhaps add more silvery spec and more flaky gold like u said

#331

Looks great so far leigh  Perhaps a bit too rough, possibly make the leather have a slightly more shiny specular. Great use of the diffuse channel btw. Also, the rip in the shoulder cairass might be a little too open. Other than that, and a better choice of lighting, I think you have this thing nailed down. I love that belt system! However, I am not sure I agree with the rivets/buttons. This design looks very old. Ancient… perhaps you could use stitching instead? Looks excellent! :applause:

:wip:

And another quick update before I go to bed

I’ve been trying to make this look more like metal… As I mentioned previously, the original leather texture is haunting it to much, so I’ve gone a little extreme in trying to get it to look metallic.

I do think that there are too many colours here, but I will fix that.

I am concerned that this may be a little too saturated as well…

Looking for some good crits

Ok I think the base gold./metal with rust over it is the right direction. Cracks and chips etc, your definatly heading in the right direction. The shoulderpad area, rust where the rain etc would hit it, and the parts that are covered by the above shoulder plate cleaner works good. Keep it comming, and remember certain rustic areas tend to get very rusty(darker) in the middle where the rust has eaten away at the metal the most. So in certain rusted spots i would go for the real depth and have it eat or almost eat right through.

I’m loving what i am seeign though. Keep on posting them =)

Aragorn =P :eek: :smiley: :scream:

I dont know…
I thought it looked more like metal before you did this Leigh.
This looks like somebody smugged on it with gray crayon.
You probrably think it looks like leather because you meant it to look like leather but to me it looks metal-like without the gray stuff.

Looking good though!

#335

I think this is a definite improvement!

#336

Wow! Great textures. Maybe you could give the rust a kind of glittery specualr highlight. Great work so far Texturing Goddess!

#337

I must say, I’m amazed!

#338

ive been analyzing it for a bit leigh and i dont actually think there are to many colors. Except for the red in the upper left area of the x and the red on the right side as well. Everything else looks superb with the metal and gold as base golors.

Try to stop and look at it from the viewer seeing it without trying to crit it. And not the artist. I think you will agree you are on the right track definatly. Soem areas are a bit worn down yes but remember that happens on metal armor.

the metal along the crack of the right shoulder blade(pad)(viewers left) is an awesome touch at depth, adds to the realism. Definatly keep at it.

#339

Well Leigh, that’s always an awesome work !

In my own opinion, i think the last render is too saturate in colors, and we also see too much the procedural bump comparede to the render you did just before the last. I prefered this one, but that’s a question of taste i think. Anyway, what do you think about desaturate these colors a little bit like this :

Here you still have the main color idea, and in the same time you keep the grey tones. what do you think ?

/me agrees

Great work, Leigh. But totally I agree with .:STRIKE:. . You know, the hardest thing is to choose the right time to stop.

#342

Hi Leigh :bounce:

I have to say that i agree with .::STRIKE::. and m@. …50%, the other 50% of my opinion is hold back from only one question bothering my mind…soldiers have cuts on their armor…but i don’t think they leave them to rust…!!!

just a thought._

:wavey:

#343

STRIKE is right on the money. Your gray drew too much attention to itself. I like what he did with it.

Awesome job!!

#344

er soldiers dont let their armor rust, but remember this is a wraith…
