Okay, I had this idea - what if, when the armour had originally been made, the Elven smith had put a thin layer of gold into the patterned inlays - since Elves are very artistic, it seems like the kind of thing they would do.
Because gold doesn’t rust, it would just kinda flake off over the years, and I thought that it might be kinda nice to have some flecks of gold still remaining here and there in the inlays… what do you guys think? Gold or no gold? Or perhaps not gold, but mother-of-pearl, or something like that?

Gold, i think gold will really do it. Had it been more of an asian topic i would have said mother of pearl but elfs would be gold.

Can the rings be gold too? maybe a bit eroded or with moss?
