Thanks again Hasch2o. I’m using photoshop 7.

This is the reference image I’m using. (a bigger one of course)

Base colors… I hope this is the right way to do it…

I don’t know how I came up with this, but it might have to do with a model I did quite a while ago in maya. (here)
However the current 2d concept wasn’t inspired on the 3d one, but it reminded me of it for some reason.

Latin Lover Power! :buttrock:

Really dig your sketch, great concept (come on with the history!) and nice base colors, actually your 3D character reminds my own Middle Earth entry, and i thought i was original

Photoshop 7 is nice, but painter is much better, you should try it!

He nioce scetches,

He does bring a sort of “preforming a ritual” Idea to me …
Maybe a start of a background story for him?

sacrifice a goat
Camp fire
ritual for rain on his crops

Maybe he has preformed a ritual for to long and now he is possesed by the thing whichfor he was preforming those rituals
…Once Human… now said to be crazy!.. but is he?..maybe…maybe he is taken by the demon he worshiped! :surprised

Just some ideas that popt in.

Thanks for replying.

Pancreas: well, Painter must be better, the thing is… I don’t have it and don’t know how to use it. (actually I dont know how to use PS either, I would have tried painter if I had had the chance  )

Iguiniz.X.: hey, I really like your idea, but I think I’ve already come up with a background story. However I think I will add some blood to his hands to make him look wilder, more savage, kind of like the sacrifice/ritual stuff.

I’m adding some shadows… crits please.

I’m following you, Frinsklen! GReat! :wip:

#12

Hey Frinsklen!! That’s great!

but… what’s happening with his face? Ouh! I see… He’s a TimidMan from Middle Earth. In such a case… It’s cool.

His torso is a little flat… you have a diffuse color… shadows… the next step… is the light?

I’m following you too… since you were a little baby … and I was it too

#13

 oh, finally!..

#14

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Hey Pabbloz, great to have you abroad.
Lichiman: you’re right about the torso, don’t worry about that yet, there’s lots of work to do…

Time for some background story…

These guys were once humans, humans that escaped from Mordor when Sauron was defeated. [...] The lack of Sauron's guidance they were linked to has turned them into these weak creatures.
They live in dark woods, or in caves, hidden where stronger creatures can't find them, since they're afraid of anything that looks superior in strength or wisdom. They're not specially hostile and never talk to other races.

and that’s enough! sorry for not coming up with anything better, I just don’t have the time!

update…

#16

Looking your sketches I’m understanding yuor critique about the pos of my character in effect you are searching a dynamic pose in yuor work really different from mine.

#17

COOL!..i like the pose and the blue skin!:applause:

#18

Hi again…

Carlocki: haha, an excellent point!

-OZ-: thanks. Hey, non hai tempo per il tuo hangly ma hai tempo per fare osservazioni? just joking man, thanks a lot, you deserve an update!

#19

Hi Frinsklen I like it. Nice work on the skin you’ve added some nice contrasts in there and some nice details in the change of colour. but where is the background!:bounce: C’mon man there’s gotta be a setting you’re thinking of!

Good work Frinsklen, it’s good you practice your 2D skills! come on!
I think you should now work in a cleaner update. So, clean the contorn lines and define better the colors.
You could make a background… why not… by I think you will learn more if you try to finish just the character with the highest quality as you can.

so… work work wokr on the black lines! :wip:

#21

Nice character…I like his pose. I think it would be great if you could get rid of the black lines and add a background.:wip:

#22

Thanks everyone once again.

I don’t understand exactly what you guys mean by “black lines” but since I’ve used a pencil drawing as reference (see first page) I guess you mean the lines of the pencil layer that are still there.

So I tried to remove them:
Image without pencil reference layer
and as you can see, it sucks.

This is my first digital painting, so any help with this would be great.
oh, I forgot to say that I’m color-blind, so if you see any weird colors or anything that doesn’t make sense, please tell me!

Time’s running out so that’s what I’m going to do

Hey frinsklen! Nice character and lovely pose…Here’s my crits (first digital drawing? good job if thats the case!)

First of all your colors are too desaturated, kinda blends in to one another, try to push the contrast it will do you good, second of all try to be more dynamic with your lighting. You know that a 3d image with cheesy lighting makes it look incredebly flat, it’s the same in 2d you can’t cheat your way out of that
About the black lines, I think they mean that the character itself doesn’t have enough volume, if you add black outlines (inked) then it will look cartoony but if you go with darker and lighter skincolor outlines you will get a more realistic look, the choice is up to you but I suggest that you always keep your reference sketch in it’s own layer and work down the opacity for that layer. (As you color you turn the opacity more and more down till the layer is completely gone)
Also the hair could use a little bit more detail.

Well hope I have been to some assistance.
Keep it up!
