Decided to enter this and started working on my character today.
It’s a carnivorous groundworm that sense movement and sounds through it’s limbs, then swoops out and eats it’s prey, then swiftly returns to it’s hole in the ground.
Just a quick, start, will work more around the mouth, add more detail and pose it more later.

As I have said, cool start, now just start adding more details! Add get some more teeth in there dammnit 
Also try adding some kind of ridge detail to seperate each of the body segments - maybe little teeth or something like that.
Oh and this IS different enough from the Dune worms to be your own idea!

Aaah that is definitely looking better!
Now, what you need to do to give it a more natural look, is to make the spikes uneven - don’t have them all the same length and facing outwards at the same angles - this is a creature of the wild, so make it all uneven and wild and jagged!
Make some of the spikes much longer, make some of them bent, make one or two missing here and there.
Also, for the mouthpiece, perhaps you could add more teeth and stuff. Remember the saarlac in Return Of The Jedi? That giant worm thing with all the teeth in the desert that Jabba wanted to chuck Luke into? Well, perhaps you could do something like that for the mouth and gullet - rows and rows of tusk-like teeth, that would make him look very vicious indeed!
You also need mould those front teeth slightly, because it looks like those polys are under a bit of strain.

Now, the same as I said earlier goes - just make these new spikes uneven, and more natural looking. Also, it is a bit odd the way the spikes just kinda pop out of the body - try moulding the areas below the spikes to form like bases for the spikes. That way you will create a more flowing organic look
Please forgive my comment, but you’ve gotta be smoking something to want to use that for your UV map. Can someone out there help him out in MAYA to do a cylinder instead of an Atlas…
