Quicktime fbx plugin hide and seek!!!

#1

Is this a joke? What’s the deal with the Autodesk download page?
It used to be straithforward to find the Quicktime FBX plugin in the Alias site and download it.
I dare you to find that same plugin in the Autodesk site in less than 10 minutes.

You’re totally right. I gave up looking for it the other day. I found the plugins for 3D apps, the SDK etc.

But not the quicktime plugin!

Really?

I accepted your dare and found it in like, 2 minutes. It’s the same setup as before.
Under downloads, I chose Alias FBX, Plugins, Windows for the OS in the search properties and it gave me a list of all the fbx plugins. I skipped through a couple of pages and found the quicktime plugins.

Maybe try again? Were you logged in? I have a bronze membership so maybe that’s the difference?

Cheers,

I was at a demo last week where the demonstrator from Autodesk itself showed this fabled “fbx for quicktime” plug-in. He also told the audience that it was, and I quote,

“Free for all to download and use, direct from the Autodesk website.”

Well I’ve looked at least 3 times now and found all the convertors for maya, max and XSI, but no plug-in for quicktime.

I’m not a bronze, silver or platinum member of the Autodesk/Alias website, but that kind of defeats the “Free for all to download and use, direct from the Autodesk website,” bit if you need to be.

Am I being super stupid or something, or is it really not there anymore, and this guy was taking the p**s??

Well there is one there.

FBX QuickTime Plug-In
FBX for Apple QuickTime allows any FBX file to be viewed and interacted with using Apple’s QuickTime player on either Macintosh or Windows computers.

Plug-In, Conversion FBX 6

Download

Looks like you do need at least a bronze membership but since that’s free too I think it still falls under ‘free for all’.

Good luck

Thanks for the info Sammer…

I bit the proverbial bullet and signed up for the <free> Bronze membership. I then ran a search on their database using the search criterea you outlined above…

Any thoughts on what i’m doing wrong? >>> it still doesn’t seem an easy find, even with membership…

Cheers

That any use? Should be accessible if you have Bronze membership.
