Quick Question, baking layered animation on to base layer?

#1

should be a quick one…

does motionbuilder have an option to bake all the animation layers on to the base layer?

working in motionbuilder cleaning mocap data and ran into a problem where the elbow completely rotates 360 and back into place. i used another layer to counter animate the arm so it looks okay, but the curves are getting more and more confusing and i haven’t even started to animate on top of the mocap.

so logically it would be a pretty nifty tool to bake all the layers on to the base layer to create a new base layer, for simplification purposes…

thanks guys, cheers

the fast way to bake down a layer is just plot it back to the skeleton and leave the layer if your done.

In the graph editor near the layers you can do two things.
to just merge down the edit to keep editing I delete the layer and tell it to bake all when it prompts me. its faster to delete the layer than it is to use the merge layer options.

or you can use the merge layer options to just bake/plot parts of the rig.

nice job on the toolkit also, i purchased it but haven’t had the time to dive in completely…

Just noticed you can plot the animation down to the skeleton, delete the control rig and re-plot the skeleton animation back on to a brand new control rig. This cleans everything and lets you start brand new with all your changes. Very nice, thought I would share with everyone.

happy cleaning
