Quick help with a burning fuse

#1

Hey guys, this is my first post and I’m pretty new to Maya (2-3 months) so please dumb down your answers if possible :hmm:
I will just tell you guys the steps i have been going through to make the fuse and you can hopefully tell me what I’m doing wrong.

  • I make a curve with the cv curve tool, then make a nurbs circle.
  • I select the circle then shift select the curve.
  • Surfaces menu - extrude (partial)
  • In the channel box for the extruded surface I change Fixed path to “on” and Use component pivot to “component pivot”
  • Right click hold on extruded surface and select “control vertex” and then drag select the end CV’s.
  • Then I select emitt from object. I want the fuse to look like its burning.
  • I key Max Value (under channel box, subCurve2) to 1 and move a couple hundred frames and key it to 0.
The animation starts perfect, the fuse is getting shorter and is burning but it stops burning after about the 2nd CV (maybe 1/4 the way down the fuse)… also some of the CV’s don’t follow the exact path of the curve… Sorry if this is a stupid question but any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

what version of maya are you using? i tried it in 2013 and it seems broken to even get the animated extrude to work if you dont set everything right from the beginning.
