Questions on file formats?

I was woundering what is included in each file format (3ds,obj, wings)

For example, does Bones, Animations, UV Maps and Textures all stay with each file?

If so, since Wings doesn’t support Bones or Animations, are those settings still inside the imported file, even though they dont show up? What about if you make adjustments to the file/model?

Does an imported file need to be “exported/save as” the original file-type to retain those settings?

I’ve yet to play with anything other than just plain models, so I don’t know whats included therein. I know in games Textures are usually seperate files, but I know wings saves it’s assigned textures within in the file.

Anybody care to clearify?

OBJ and 3DS files …

whenever I’ve generated these … they always maintain the texture pixels (bitmaps) in a separate file (.BMP, .JPG, .TGA …)

I’ve never seen a 3DS or an OBJ with bones or animation information in there … but I would not rule it out … I’m just suspicious that they don’t address animation.
