Questions about align 'n stuff

#1

Hello!
I’d like to know how can I align faces to each other, or align faces to the world coordinates in a way that the rest of the object(s) remain at place. Maybe It’s align in the tools menu  …but I can’t use it.

I’m still wondering what are BoundingBoxes for, maybe somekind of helpers? And what are the workarounds for BB’s. I’ve Recently discovered Snap Image in the tools menu and don’t know what’s it for.

I’m looking for answers. Thanx in advance!

Well…

Aligning two faces can be accomplished by selecting the face of the object you want to align to another object, RMB-Menu>Put On, and then select the face to align to.

If you want to align the faces without moving the objects but changing the shape, select face as above, the RMB-Menu>RMB-click Flatten, RMB-click the align to face twice.

To center object to the center of world space, select object or face of object and Tools>Center, select axis.

To align object to other objects (BB based) select objects Tools>Align, select axis. (Don’t know if it works w/ faces, never tried)

I haven’t found much use for BB’s in my workflow, but I am sure they can be put to good use.

I haven’t used Snap Image yet… hopefully someone will chime in, as I’d like to hear what it does and what it’s good for.

Thanx JDex, but I’d like to achieve aligning the faces onto the same plane, not just the same orientation on separate planes.
I just hope to be clear and understandable.

There’s some info about Flatten and Bounding Box commands at aardvarks if of interest.

BBox will work with single verts (can’t get any more precise than that, imo) as well as edges, faces and objects. Personally, I seldom use the object option as it can be difficult to estimate the BB centre (with irregular shaped items)

Snap image lets you imprint / project an imported image (or part of) onto selected faces of your model.

The (repeated/tiled) image fills the screen (image doesn’t move) - user moves object with camera controls until selected geom is behind relevant bit of image - hits the ‘go’ button and image portion gets transferred to sel. faces on object.

Edit

Re issue in pix, use Flatten (as JDex suggests)
Select bottom of wall (looks like a wall of bldg to me  )
Flatten -> Y, use RMB option
Select element (v.e or f) on lowest part of other object with RMB

done
