Question regarding copyright

#1

Hey guys.

This is just a quick question to get your views on a copyright matter.

Just messing on Google Images and I typed Thralia (one of my images) and sure enough a website came up with it on. A website that I’ve never submitted it to.

There are also a couple of others up there that I recognise from CGS. Now this as far as I know is certainly against UK copyright law. And although they’re not selling my work on, they’re still distributing it without my conscent.

I believe I have to have been dead for 50 years for people to do this without asking.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I know websites can be coded so that right click functions are disabled, and I wouldn’t want this, as I like to save some peoples work as wallpapers etc…But what kind of protection do we artists have against this kind of thing?

None. Even with disabling right-clicking one could still use screenshots/captures.

All you can do is notify and ask to remove or sue the website owner.

Unfortunately this is extremely common and pretty much unavoidable on most sites. If the site has a reasonable level of professionalism you can sometimes contact them and ask it to be removed, however if the site content is uploaded by users there’s not really much that can be done.
