Question about LightPlanes

#1

Been away from EIAS for a while, so I’m trying to go through some of the newer features. the Lightplane shader being one of them.

I have a basic room with a window set-up, and the light plane looks great in room and the furnishings. In this scene, there is only one window, and the light plane is located just outside the window. In the render, the room is well lit, expect for the wall with the window, it is almost completely black.

I understand this is expected, as it is not being directly illuminated from the light plane.

Question: Recommende solutions to partially light the rt. wall? Can can I create a secondary light plane, and have it only effect a certain object set? If I do add one, I’m assuming I need to add another shader to the camera map tab and have it only apply to the right hand wall. If so, will EI correctly match up the variou slight planes to the various camera map settings?

I’ve also tried a simply light in the room, and only setting the rt. wall in it’s illumintain list, but the quality of this light is diffrent then that of the light plane, and it doesn;t match.

Any tips?

Hi Mike,

You need to enable GI - with say 100 primary rays (starting point) - Make the ‘skylight’ inactive and set the reverse illumination to 1 or 2 bounces - the light plane light with then bounce around the room illuminating the dark wall.

What version of EI are you running? LP had several fixes in 66/ 7 - I can send you the latest version if you want?

The other thing is that you will only need one ‘receiver’ camera map, this is because LP instances are capable of communicating with each other -.

Hope that helps,
Ian

Excellent thanks, I’ll give it a try. I’m on 7.0 BTW.
