Question about cartoony eyes modeling

#1

Hey guys, Im working on a cartoon character ( Im trying to do a roman guy from Asterix: The Land of the Gods film.

I’ve got a question, I think the eyes are not well-rounded ( pictures links below )
So I was wondering, for animation purposes, how do they do since they can’t rotate properly the eye ball ? Wiring with the texture of the eye?

Thank for your help

I assume the iris and pupil are geometry conforming to the spherical eye, then wired to some target dummy, they follow the dummy object wherever you want to aim the character’s eyes. This allows you to scale the pupil in real time too.
