Q regarding 3DS export versus OBJ export

Hi,
I noticed that making a quite basic shape in Wings3D (a cup) and then exporting this with SUBDIV=0 there is a big difference in the exported model.

With 3DS export the model is (badly) triangulated.

With OBJ export the model retains the same (quadrangle) polygons as inside Wings3D

Is this a “feature” of the 3DS format or is it a Wings “feature” ?
(Version used 0.98.15a)

the thing to remember is that Max doesnt use quads
its all tris, it uses markers to tell it what edges should not be displayed
wings supports this
but alot of apps do not
so if your taking the model to another app and it displays tris then the best option is to use obj instead
