Pumpkin scene

#1

Since the Halloween is coming, I’m thinking of making a pumpkin scene. I already have idea, but I need the pumpkins. Biggest hassle is materials.

Next step, making a candle for the inside. I think it will be pretty simple, it won’t be very visible in the scene.

EDIT: I feel that the inside should be yellower and brighter, like so:

Making a scene with pumpkins. Need to add snow, some props, and get rid of these pesky artifacts. Ugh, boolean is evil, but I see no better way of cutting holes in these pumpkins.

Heey nice work so far. I like the texturing. Could you maybe post a wire frame render so people might be able to help you with your boolean problem?

#4

Are you referring to the fireflies when you say artifacts? there are a few ways to get rid of those depending on the renderer you’re using. You should post your render settings as well.

#5

Increasing mesh resolution removed the artifacts. Now I need to add props, a background, play with lighting, add DoF, some effects, get rid of fireflies (thank you for reminding me, btw)… lots of work and so little time. Halloween is close!

#6

Added some props, but now I’m stuck with how to make this scene more interesting. Black BG is boring. There isn’t enough light. And need some DoF as well, maybe.

Well, I don’t know what to do here, so here’s a preview of what I consider a final version.

i feel like the lights in the background are more Christmasy than Halloween. Halloween lights tend be be more green yellow and red, they do have blue sometimes but like i said that’s more indicative of Christmas. the lights in the background are also a little overpowering, as for the pumpkins, i don’t know if you would want to do this but you could add a thickness map to it to allow some light to bleed through the shell of the pumpkin to give it a slight translucent feel.

Looks pretty good so far. My suggestion is to add some color variation to the texture of the pumpkins, it’s plain colors right now. Compositing-wise I 'd turn the camera upwards and move it down a little to achieve a slightly “low-angle shot”. And instead of colorful lights, I’d put a night sky with full moon and maybe a couple “spooky” trees. Fog and clouds would add to the Halloween feel. Also, to make the scene more friendly, as your initial idea, maybe hang on those trees some lights, or lanterns, the could be on the ground too. But we don’t celebrate Halloween here in Greece so maybe I’m not the best person to tell you.
