Hi all!
Well, I’ll try to hold my tongue as I write this post. It’s late and all I really want is to succeed with ANY SSS shader at this point. I’ve tried SubScatter and while it has pretty good results, I’m not getting that true SSS effect you see in “The Incredibles” and “Shrek 2”. I’ve downloaded the shader pack from Alias and installed it/them and you practically have to have a college degree to figure them out (at least that’s how it is for me). And now the one you all are touting as the “it” shader for SSS - Diffusion. I’ve installed everything as they are supposed to be but when I go to render in MR, I get nothing. In my Script Editor it keeps saying // Info (Mayatomr): Aborted //. I’ve tried Point Lights and Area Lights and Directional Lights and honestly, I’m about to give up. I don’t have the time to read all though all of these forums and pour through various others to get the answers I need. Let me show you an example of what I’m coming up with in SubScatter. Everything else is looking okay but I can’t get that “light behind the ear” thing to work. Mark Davies himself said this…

"This is happening as a result of the thin geometry of the ear. Our rays
fired from the light sources are returning bad distance values and
leaving
areas darker than they should be. You can try a few things:
- thicken the ears. this would only be to see if this is indeed the
issue - map the ‘Absorption’ parameter. this would be a greyscale painted
map
that isolates the ears as white. you may need a setRange node to remap
the
values to greater than 1."

I’m lost. I have no clue what I’m doing. I just want to achieve the effect and just move on to my next step in getting my first movie made. This is hard stuff! If anyone can please send me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
