Project Wachowski RECRUITING

#1

I am pleased to anounce that I’m in the pre-production stages of turning Ted McKeever’s short graphic story, ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ into a 3D animation. It tell’s the story of Tiera who was offered the opportunity to find out the truth, and the answer to the question, ‘what is the matrix?’ However, instead of choosing freedom and accepting the red pill she chooses the blue pill. Her regrets are a thousand fold and now she lives a life of irrevocable of self-persecution and self-doubt at her own cowardice.

The original drawings show a decaying and gritty world, something feels very intrinsically real about them, and this will be reflected in the animation, with all the models being high-poly and the textures high resolution (1024x768). The animation will not be mocap based however it will be based on the movements of real people. The animation will have a running time of 6-8 minutes and will be rendered in three versions, at 800x600 and 1024x768 respectively, and the other at 1920 x 1080 (high definition), as this will allow for greater distribution range and I’m pretty sure it will be the only project at Ravensbourne 3D to be produced with high-def in mind.

If anyone is interested in helping on this project I’m only interested in people who are committed and professional. I’m looking for an experienced animator and rigger above all else.

Updates to follow soon…

A screenshot of the primary location has been finally posted at http://t3kaos.spaces.live.com/

It took two weeks to design and model, coming in at over 13,000 polygons, it is a highly detailed model of the hotel where our story’s central character lives, the White Rabbit Hotel. It’s architecture is based on the 1920’s buildings in Chicago, and is very old and run down (when textured). At the moment the fire escape systems are in construction and will be added to the model shortly. The whole model has been constructed to scale so that for certain render passes we can pass straight through one of the hotel windows straight into Tiera’s room as once seamless shot.

If you’re interested in joining in on this project, you should first get a copy of the graphic short, that can be found in ‘The Matrix Comics - Vol.1’. Once you’ve read the story just leave a message on my blog’s guestbook with your contact details and a brief description of what you can and would like to do, and I’ll get back in touch with you as soon as possible.

I’ve finally started on some of the major RnD for this project, starting with the nCloth simulations. I’ve started by creating a dynamic pair of curtains on a rail, which will be able to slide back and forth to simulate being opened and closed. I am experiencing some problems with saving the simulation calculations via file caches for future playback for some reason, so if anyone has any experience with nCloth caches or baking etc please let me know asap.

Visit my project blog to view the complete update and screenshots. More on the way.

It’s official ladies and gentleman, today I received official approval from Burlyman Entertainment to develop Ted McKeever’s short story ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ into a non-commercial animation project. I was really afraid that they would say no and act like the usual money hungry corporation, but they didn’t. They’ve proven that it’s possible.

Thanks Burlyman - you’ve made a believer or me and I hope that this project makes you proud.

Yet another model for main floorplan external stage has just finished construction - introducing the Church of the Resurrection.

This church is inspired, in part, by the church that haunts the dreams of the Al Simmons, aka Spawn, in Ted McFarlane’s epic graphic novels of the same name. Gothic and imposing, this church represents something of the spiritual trials that our central character is suffering.

You’re thread is not that large where you can’t put your recruitment announcements in the same thread. I’ve merged the two together.

Hi All

Finally an update concerning this project. If you check out the project blog you can see that Tiera’s room is slowly nearing completion and test renders of a lighting test have just gone online, as have renders of our first purchasable content - an animatable custom shader. At the moment we’re looking at the next few months for completion of all assests for Tiera’s room with texturing starting next year potentially. A story synopsis has also gone online. For anyone interested we are still looking for the following people to join the project;

2x Animators (Character and Environmental)
1x Modeler (Maya and ZBrush)
1x Texture Artist (Photoshop CS Extended)

Everyone who joins will receive shares within the company thats is being formed upon completion and release of this animation project, so that they may receive a share of our future project (codenamed: project: Genesis Directive)

Finally I’ve managed to start texturing Tiera’s room. As you can see from the renders onsite, its starting to take form. All the textures are being pre-baked to the vertices to engage better shading.
