Problems with Tracking in General

#1

Hi Everyone,

This is a little urgent so i hope someone can help me quickly. I have a very specific problem in that I have very little knowledge of Shake and am desperately learning it with the provided manuals and online help. However to cut a long story short. I have a background movie, which is of a camera pan of an exterior of a house. I have created a Rotoshape to mask it from the sky and I have successfully tracked 4 points on the house.

The problem I’m having is attaching the Rotoshape to the Matchmove points that I have tracked. I’m sure this is possible but I just cannot seem to see how I should be doing it. Can someone please help. I have no more hair left on my head but I have plenty on my legs which I’m reluctant to pull out, but if I can’t sort this problem out, I’ll start. :frowning:

Also, can someone tell me what the point is of Tracking. There is a function but it doesn’t seem to have any use. The manual only really refers to Stabilising and Matchmove.

Thanks

was the roto shape a part of the footage (as in the filein) or a node in itself?

if its a node in itself, id just copy the Tracking node and put the roto on that

however, sounds to me kind of like what you did was Matchmoving, which would probably work better. As what, the camera pans, and you want the roto to pan exactly with the camera correct?

well what i have been toled so far about shake tracking methoed that it heat’s nose! (on the shot that is) the best whay that i have been toled to resolve this mater is but applying the fallowing to the shot you wish to track.

  1. apply a bluer node to the shot till the nose hase gone.
  2. then apply a sharpen node to smoth done the bulering.
  3. then track. (i hot that resove the tracking problome) oh p.s. it some time’s better to track in the blue or the green chanle rader then RGB
  4. just in case you want to know where the matchmove is hidden in the stabilze node.

good luck

Hey iki,

when you are tracking in shake, use the Tracker node to track the 4 points on the house, then create your rotoshape mask for the first frame then after your rotoshape node, add a stabilze node then set it to ‘match’ then set it 4 point track then scroll down and right click on track 1 and load the track it should say something like Tracker1.track1…do that for each Tracker (you can do this with an expression if you want or just use link) im not going to go into the difference between linking and loading its in the manual.

actually if you only want to have certain points move and your using shake 4 you can right click on the rotoshape point that you want to move with the tracker then go down to the bottom of the list and it should say something like attach tracker to point, then attach that point…

hope that helps
