I’ve got a plane like this:

How do I preserve its overall shape upon subdivide? Crease does nothing, and I can’t make an edge loop because there’s nothing to hide.
Thanks for any help!

That would help the edges, but I want the inner edges to be smooth (the tree going horizontally across). Turning of SMT would make it look like subdivision never happened.
That makes the shape a little better, but it’s still smoothed as soon as the second subdiv goes in. If I leave on SMT until I can smooth things without too visibly deforming the edges, the inner edges will all look unsmoothed too.
divide it once then tool>geometry >delete lower
then tool>geometry >group loops
turn the polish to zero
Thanks, closest to working so far but one huge drawback: using group loops completely messes up my UVs. The only way I’ve found to achieve a similar effect without messing up UVs is to export the plane with a dummy object to mask off, then apply edge loop in zbrush, though that seems kind of overkill…
