Practicing of 2.5D animation

#1

This is a student project for my independent study class. This project is about practicing and experimenting techniques for creating animated still images (2.5D).

Here is a vimeo link for the final product. Feel free to check it out and give some feedbacks

Before I begin, I would like to inform that this whole project is for educational purpose and practicing personal skill only. And software that were used in this project are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effect.

These are the process that I used to create this animation.

First, I started with finding my source images (should have very high resolution) and I got 5 natural pictures. (I already gave credit for each image in the end of my video). Each one of them were die-cut and retouched in photoshop to separate into layers for 3D compositing.

For 3D compositing. I began with ordering image layers into correct position (what I found in this stage that if you ordered you image layer properly, it will reduce your work when you animated 3D camera to get illusion of depth (3D). After I got the camera position and movement that I was satisfied with, the rest of process was to improve your work in aesthetic aspect.

Some effects that I used in the production of this animation

Lens Flare to create movement of light.
Curve and Hue and Saturation for color grading and color correction.
Puppet Pin Tool and Displacement Map for animated animals or human.
CC Particle System II for generating snow
Fractal Noise with Mask and Feather to create fog
Turbulent Displacement to create water movement and reflect.

After that every images were animated separately and then rendered out as one footage. Then each footage would be composed again with sound and titles and became the final version.

Unfortunately, I cannot show some screenshots of my working process due to unidentified problem with uploading picture function. However, if you watched my work, feel free to ask any questions, it would be my pleasure for answering it. Also, any comments or advices will be my pleasure as well.
