I love this thread, very interesting and inspirational. Thank you TheFirstAngel for starting it, and everyone for their contributions, this is very helpful.
Thanks for starting this thread and sharing your experience!
Far from being perfect, this is a 1h realtime capture of my current technique to paint comic style adventure backgrounds and their walkbehinds with sharp edges:

Sorry for posting an exe file - I don’t like them as well, but it seemed to be the best way to compress an 1h hires video somewhat lossless. Captured with bbflashback, just to let you know the source of the exe file.
Heres the process:

Sacha, how can you capture your screen while working? I would love to try that out.
And on a sidenote: I hope you are ok
this probably would work if ur os ish windows…
but here it is… make sure that the window on top is ur workplace in PS, then by pressing ALT+PrtScr(located in the top keys probably nested beside the F keys of ur keyboard)
after that open a new document, in PS then paste… whoalla…theres ur capture…

woah, TheFirstAngel, thx for the video links and tut links posted in page 2
This is a fantastic thread! Helps noobs like me understand where to start. Wonderful Art
(omigod i got so much to learn… @_@)
Hello everyone,
I made some captures while working so here is a little step by step.
Placing basic color over all the body just to get an idea of the light
and shadows.
First, I paint the character with round basic brushes, Usually ona colored
background. Notice the color samples on the left to set the skin tone I want
to use.

Smoothing the shapes and colors.
I do not use the zoom at this stage, in fact I will try not tu use it until
the last steps.

Create the surrounding light and environment
Here again, just place big color strokes to get an idea of what will be around the character.

Building the forest
Using custom brushes, I build the trees and leaves

Enlight the background
I place some light effect such as glows, atmospherics in the background and bright spots here and there to create volume and depth. I add details to improve the depth of field.

Still improving the depth by adding details to the hair (still without zooming)

The armor and the clothes
Ok, let’s begin to talk seriously, like I did for the body, I paint the armor
with basic brush and quite big round color strokes.
