Hey, first of all, you should have put “http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IFS-4y_vFf0/VFQOw4NttLI/AAAAAAAACKw/nlTg1R-1t74/s1600/I%2Bam%2Blegend%2Billustration.jpg” inbetween the [IMG]

you have quite a different style which is good in my opinion. This piece seems a bit too complicated to enjoy. You don’t know where to look which means it lacks point of interests and composition. Also there aren’t any value differences which makes it look flat, without depth.

You say you are new in digital painting but this piece is quite good for a starter.

The main issue I noticed right away, is how inconsistent the lighting looks. Some parts of the image show the main light source to the right, and it’s pretty directional, but in other places in your image, the lighting becomes inexplicably diffused and all the shadows that should exist are missing.

I took a look at your portfolio, and I’m noticing the same problem in your other pieces.

The problem here, is that by using all those photo elements in your work, you haven’t actually learned the foundations of visual art properly, and those photo elements become a crutch instead of a tool.

In order to use photo elements convincingly and correctly, you must understand the basic underlying principles of lighting, values, and form. Without that proper understanding, the way you mix the photo pieces will create illogical inconsistencies with contradictions and egregious mistakes.

It’s important to learn how to paint properly first, otherwise, using photos just becomes a crutch and you won’t be able to do anything without relying on piecing together photos.

You might want to read the sticky threads in the Art Techniques & Theories forum (linked below in my signature), because there are some very helpful threads and links for effective artistic development that will make a huge difference in how fast you effectively you improve as an artist.

Hi VladimirGasaiArt,

It’s a great piece of art. There are so many details, and I liked the way you choose to keep the shade on the bottom, giving a natural contrast with the background.
Everything in an art depend of the artist, of what he thinks, and what he wants to share or express. I believe every art is perfect, for was created by the artist (the artist own his art). There are many techniques, there are many views, studies, etc,. But, I guess, what’s the purpose of the art, what he wants to offer, or what kind of reaction he wants to bring for people, it all depends of the main concept and original idea (or inspiration) of the artist. For example, maybe I want to bring calm and tranquility for one’s eyes, or maybe I want to bring just confusion, that’s fine too. Maybe I want the people to think about the shot or the scene, or maybe I just want they just read the superficial message.

You’re in the right way, for sure. You make good use of the tools (something that many wish to do), and the main thing is: Am I achieving what I wish for my art? Maybe yes, but if not, the problem is a tool? Is a detail? In a color?
There is no mistake in an art. Art is just art. Just what we want to achieve (is the issue), i guess.

Keep it up, thank you for posting
