Hi all,

im working on portrait of Winona Rider. To be honest this is one of my first sculpts of female face and i would like to make her perfect. please let me know what you think and how could i make it better?

I’m assuming the stylisation is intentional? I have to say I wouldn’t recognise this as her; what are your references?

Hi,

No, she meant to be realistic, at-list i want to get her there when i’m done. below is the reference im using. What make her stylized, except hair?

Hi Andrej

At the moment, absolutely everything!

All of the proportions you currently have are exaggerated and as Leigh points out, it looks more like you’re attempting a cartoon/stylised version rather than a realistic head. There’s very little grounding between your model and the structures of the face at the moment.

I’ve made a very quick/crude adjusted version in Photoshop to try and adjust the proportions to those of a human head.

It’s not necessarily the proportions of Winona Ryder, but hopefully you can see the difference.

Don’t worry though, even incredibly skilled character artists can struggle with a likenesses and there are a lot of fundamentals you have to learn before you can even get a vaguely realistic portrait. Don’t forget to keep checking your reference and if you don’t know what you’re looking at, take a step back and do some research.
