?Polyflow Advice?

I’ve only retopologized for animation a couple times and I suspect I used too many polys in both instances. Thought this soon to be breakdancing Grey would be a good opportunity to get a character in my portfolio that has been set up for real time deformation.

Started polypainting a guide onto the model last night - am I on the right track?
Any advice or relevant links would be fantastic.

I’ll be rigging in Maya and animating with mocap data in MotionBuilder.
