PolyBoost Support

Try holding “Shift” from beginning, in order to maintain center until very last segment, then switch to “Ctrl” that makes connectin between verteces. If you were not meant to connect absolute circle, just skip the 1st step, holding “Shift.” That’ll do it.

I am in same boat (migrated from Maya), and it is really amazing piece of S/W…

Hi Rivendale,

first of all let me thank you for that awesome piece of software.

I’d like to make a request. I’m aware however that this is probably important for very few people, perhaps just me.
I’m not a big fan of having to hold down keys for an extended period of time while modeling.
Especially pressing down crtl, shift and alt at the same time when moving around points starts to hurt after a while. I know it is part of the concept and even neccessary for some operations, but would it be possible perhaps to introduce one click solutions where possible?
For example you press ctrl, shift alt once and are in move-mode then. Or you have an extra shortcut which enables that one click mode. Kind of like the windows thing for disabled people.
I didn’t think that through and there are probably some good points against it and working with Polyboost makes modeling a lot more easy and fun in any case. It’s just that the pain takes a lot of that fun away again. :frowning:

Perhaps someone else has the same problems? I’d be interested to know if more people can relate to that or if it is just me. My tendons got damaged a bit some years ago but since then I usually don’t have problems with working on the computer.

hi,

does polyboost 3 run with max 2008 (64bit). if not, when will be the new release date?

thx

#29

Polyboost demo isn’t installing for me, I run the setup script, and when I click the “install” button NOTHING happens! I’m going to try to reinstall 3ds max 9 but I doubt that’ll do anything? What could be causing this?

#30

Before you re-install max, double check files are all located in right place as intruction stated…
“…unzip the PolyBoost_v3.zip and place the “PolyBoost” folder in your
Scripts directory of 3ds max: 3dsmax/Scripts/. Once it is in place start 3ds max and run
“PolyBoost_Setup.mse” from Maxscript/Run script…in the menu. This file is located in the
PolyBoost folder. …”

Also check “System path” (Customize > Configure System Path )are pointed into right folder.

How exactly do you use the pollyboost 4 texture tools? I am trying to use the cavity , density etc etc map creation options but when i click the button nothing happens?

Any help would be cool

I’ve a question, I am trying to move some verts using either the move tool or even in border tool and the verts just won’t move at all. I am using PB 4.1 and max 2008 64bit in vista.
Also when I use the border tool with shift+drag it doesn’t always pull the new poly from the correct side of the poly you are pulling from.

#33

Hey guys, i just switched to max 2008 with polyboost 4 and the connect tool aint working for me, I hold ctrl and it just doesn’t connect vertices, even shift does not go in the middle of edges, anyone having this problem?

Edit: It’s like if polyboost is aiming way down of my mouse cursor, if it try to connect middle of edges holding shift, i have to aim higher than the edge and then it will work, it makes it very difficult to be acccurate, I am pretty sure this is a bug.

#34

I have the same problem. In a machine is working properly, in another no.

#35

I solved the problem.
you must unistalling and delete “PBPolyBoost.dlx” in plugins folder.
Then reinstalling.

bye

#36

Im gonna give it a try as soon as i can, thx my friend.

#37

Exactly the same,… PB 4.1 xp pro sp2, max 2008 32bit.
Creating verts with polydraw does work, also drag shift to make a poly. Some things are working some arnt. Move verts shows mymouse and wacom points are way out,… exactly, low.

Reinstall and deleting the plug doesnt work for me.

mesca’s trick did work for me. I think i didnt even had to reinstall, not sure, been a while. working like a charm now! thx mesca

#39

did it again, still not working,…mmmm
Yes it did,… thanx chaps:)

#40

Would be fantastic to see a new vid that includes all the short cuts you are using as you work (Im sure one of the screen capture products can do that automatically for you), as its hard to follow along without the audio.

Looks like a fantastic addon for max !

Hi, all

I am using max 9 with polyboost demo verson,

I am trying to work with the symmetry Tool, andd i just cant get it to work,

i mean it works with the sphere(edit poly) fine, but when i am working with modeling i made,

it doesn’t work,

I am guessing it’s something wrong with my model,

but i don’t know what it is

is there something i have to be aware of when you are making model??

please help me out i really need it

Im new enough to max and i thought i might download the trial version of polyboost to help me with retopo work. There is very little documentation on it so ive been watching the videos on the polyboost website. It seems straight forward enough but i still dont get it completely. When I polydraw draw a grid with polytopo onto the surface of my obj model, as in the Polyboost2_video, I right click it to view the polygons that i created, but they show up as a single big shape with a white outline rather than a bunch of white quads like in the video. Can anyone help?

#43

Polydraw isn’t the most accurate of tools. It’s only really used as a starting point. You have to make sure the grid lines you draw cross over for Max to understand your intention. You might get 5 or 6 quads out of it to begin with and then pull out the 'oul border tool and flesh the geometry out.The border tool is superb.

Plus,if you’re upgrading to Max10 then PB is now part of the App in the form of the Graphite toolset.

#44

i have this trouble with poly draw it seams tht the area of effect of lets say connect is below the cursor, i see the cross but it selects vertex tow grid units below i have polyboost4.1 on max 9 on direct3d any idea whats happening? thanks

“i have this trouble with poly draw it seams tht the area of effect of lets say connect is below the cursor, i see the cross but it selects vertex tow grid units below i have polyboost4.1 on max 9 on direct3d any idea whats happening?”

I am having problem too. It is hard to use the SwiftLoop and PolyBranch. I need to click several times to make the SwiftLoop to work and the PolyBranch always select the poly below the mouse cursor.

The problem just occur with max 9 (I update to sp2, but the problem continues).
In max 2009 everything is working fine.
