Hello, my last illustration can’t enter to 3DStill Gallery .
So I need help to see what is soo bad .

Cheating at poker can be dangerous, always measure the strength of your opponent before!
As asual, modelling in zbrush ,render in 3ds max .
Image created for fun and share .
CGtalkers, your comment and critic are welcome !

The full image is kinda flat and boring. The closeups are way better, and I actually like the beer closeup alot!

I guess the perspective could had been better, and more dramatic.

#3

Muk, a little FOV give more oppressive feeling … but here this give a flat render. Hummm …
perhaps a bigger fov with focus on the orc head would be cool .
thanks I’ll take a look !

urm… I think in the full image, the candle… the candles - their glows are way catchier than the troll’s face.

Maybe dim them a little? About the image itself I think it looks awesome :applause:

I ve try some thinks, change the dov, advance the camera, make a rotation on it.
And change the pose of the orc to make him more dynamic.
Now he tape on the table and cry, so some elements are pushed up, to give more dynamic too.
The fire of the candle is changed by the wind of the cry.
The goal is to make the head of the orc more in attention. (like you said helaine  )
I m waiting for the render … ( 5 hours )
I ll show you a sample tomorrow.
Thanks for feedback !

Hey this a update, the character have change a lot , need color correction and motion blur

#7

It’s better.

I was wondering… what does it look like without the arms of the human? I would like to see that, I bet it looks better.

#8

thanks Muk!
I’ve cleaned a little bit the composition, I’ll add motion blur and light effect to accentued the impact .

oh !! I’ve some proble with the contrast … ( mutli screens )

#9

What about adding depth effect? Like, blurring the hand

Yeah, DoF makes all the difference for a picture when it feels flat.

Also, have a look at the flames - They do look too solid, and too bright, like it was magnesium-based whicks on the candles rather than cotton. Also, remember that the glare-effect is, to a big part, due to particles in the air, catching and refracting the light, such as vapor, smoke, dust etc. So you might wanna tone the glare down or sort out a bit of volumetric particles going on in the air.

Lastly, this is an astounding piece. Keep up the good work and you’ll get it in there soon enough

Great improvements! Definitely looks a lot better in the second version.

One thing that still bothers me in the new version is that the Ogre’s actions don’t seem to represent a consistent moment in time…inconsistent body language. From the action we can see that he is, at this instant, smashing his left hand into the table…yet his facial expression is showing a mouth “twitch” which I would expect to see before he slams his fist down. Also, revealing the card in his right hand, I would more expect to see after he slams his fist down.

Here’s what I picture:

  1. the human plays a card which pisses off the Ogre.
  2. the Ogre slams his fist down on the table and yells something out
  3. the Ogre puts both hands on the table, stands up and leans over the table growling some threats at the player
  4. In response, the player puts up his hands and tells him to ease off

The moment of the picture, I think, should be at #4

Helaine :
the hands and the background are already blured, peraps need more …
hellspawned :
The flame and some effects are not here wet .I like to see particule of light in illustration, but you need to be in macro view to do that I think …
This time I’ll had smoke on flamme distorded by the air of the impact on the hand .
stuh505 :
I’ve asked myself a lot time what you means, I’ve tried some more dynamic poses but finally I’like this one, the orc is stronger and bigger, he don’t need to expose himself to be impressive ( my opinion ).
It’s not very clear now, but the orc growls out and gives a pat onto the table, its disproportionate strength makes the rest ( I’ll had some wood particules and light effect to accentuate the impact ), and the cheater jumps .
Thanks for spending time to respond, I appreciate !

just for fun :

#14

Looking good dude. My advice is: put a bit of motion blur on the objects that jump off the table so it would add some dynamism.

#15

Hello ! I’v added some motion blur and fume effect .
and some over littles thinks

#16

Love the stubble you put on his chin!
