Please I need help in maya modeling... ASAP

#1

I modelled a character on a different scene and the foot of the character on another scene… Imported the foot mesh on the character scene, combined 'em and merge the vertices to center but, after merging all the vertices and smoothing the mesh to level 3, an annoying visible line exists at the point of contact, with no smooth blending between them…
I need help on how to solve this please… any help would be greatly appeciated…

Thankx in advace

Hey, it all depends on your viewport settings and type of geometry.

First I would check if you have the “display hard edges” feature turned on … and also you can adjust normal on that area. Plus check your merging threshold, maybe after merging was done - you have a double edge in that area or zero faces.

For sure the number of vertices has to be identical for smooth blending on the border edge of both parts …

By the way, sometimes it is a good way to check yourself and do a “Bridge” so you combine to pieces of geometry, select edges on one and on another and do a bridge with 0 divisions - and if everything alright it will be successful if not - it will give you a warning.

Cheers.

Thank you so much for your good intention in helping… I really appreciate it…

I fixed the problem by reversing the normal on the existing mesh and it merged the vertices smoothly (felt stupid afterwards)
