General
Communication Design deals with new media theories and practices at the intersections of Interaction Design, Sound Design and Animation. Students develop skills in critical analysis, design and information technology in the context of their specialisation.
The pathways introduce students to a range of concepts, skills, methods and practices:
Interaction Design focuses on interface design, experimental multimedia, interactive video, virtual reality, interactive writing, information architecture, information design, motion graphics, usability and network standards.
Sound Design focuses on generative and composition techniques, ecological sound, sound for animation, contemporary digital sound environments and immersive soundscape design.
Animation focuses on compositing, drawing, storytelling, cinematography, game development, synthetic character development and interactive writing.
This course prepares students for practice in the creative industries and includes pathways to Honours and postgraduate degrees.
Career Opportunities
Interaction design: interface design, interaction design, information design, web content development, exhibition design, new media artist, motion graphics.
Sound design: sound design for film and television, web applications, games and exhibition.
Animation: visual effect, advertising, directing, animation for film and television and real time games.
