playground for coding a compositing tool

#1

hi all

for all who want to have a playground coding, here is a hint:

writing blender sequence editor plug-ins
http://download.blender.org/documentation/htmlI/x12309.html

what is the sequencer? the blender sequence editor is a non linear editing/compositing program and part of the open-source blender3D animation-suite.

atm there is strong development going on in all the included programs, incl the sequencer.

if you feel like sharing some of your knowledge and/or code for sequencer plug-ins, you are more than welcome:

here are some links about sequencer plug-ins:

http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~mein/blender/plugins/

to see the sequencer in action go here:
Download blender at
www.blender3d.org
and follow the following tutorial

http://download.blender.org/documentation/htmlI/c11301.html

as you can see, or you might have an idea now, that it is a fully functional editor/compositor. one can throw literally anything at it, video, image sequences (shift a>image>go to file and hit >a(select all)>ok or stills
but still lacks some futures. Depending on the platform, some codecs are not supported yet in unix systems, sound cant be processed nor rendered?.so there are quite some todos on the agenda

I post this, just to help this amazing development that is going on,
and is now improving the sequencer to build a grown up comp tool
which can be followed at:
http://wiki.blender.org/bin/view.pl/Requests/Sequencer

any improvement would be more then welcome and hopefully some readers of this thread, might get interested in having a go at it. some plug-ins only took 15 mins to code
http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~mein/blender/plugins/plugindoc.html

If anyone is interested in helping the blender-sequencer to become a real powerful tool for compositing and editing, you would be more than welcome.
either head over to the developer forum at www.blender.org and post with whatever idea you come up with or just stay in this thread here.
