Pixelated texture and bump

#1

Hey guys,
I have a problem in maya. When im trying to render a human head in mental ray, only the nose area becomes pixelated and all the other area seems to be fine.
Ive tried to test the normal map and its fine. I think that the problem is maybe the model? I did a quick new uv in maya and the problem stays. Anyone has an idea? Take a look at the images.

It would help us if you post a snapshot of the uv-layout. But my guess is that the uvs around the nose area are too close together. You should try applying a checker-board texture and adjust your uvs so that the checkers are evenly spaced/sized over the whole mesh.

Moving to the rendering subforum.

Looks like the nose simply doesnt have enough UV space to hold up at that close level.

Usual method the make sure you have enough is to use the checkerboard method as Dave mentioned. Its a good way to check for this before you get too far down the line…

Yep, look at the model; big nose, look at the UV, small nose - so, a small area of the map is being stretched onto a big nose
