I cannot get these shaders working. I have followed the installation instructions to the t but get this error upon rendering:
API 0.0 error 301031: call to undeclared function “mia_material”
API 0.0 error 301032: while defining material “mia_material1SG”: undefined shader “mia_material1”

What have I done wrong?

Much thanks Yashu, you make my life easier.

On a side not, I’ve been wondering about this for a while now. The mia_material is great and works perfectly in Maya. But the thing is we all had to take it from 3ds max 9. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but it is the mia_material (mental images architectual material) which means that mental images created it, not Autodesk. Now I can understand Autodesk not implementing the mia_material into Maya f it had been developed for 3DS Max from the ground up. But my impression, which again correct me if I’m wrong, is that the mia_material is technology from mental images themselves, as in it’s something that should go into all mental ray implementations. Was Maya 8 just released too early for the mia_material to be integrated? Or did Autodesk never intend on implementing it? And will Autodesk continue to leave things out of Maya in favor of 3DS?

nope it will be in the next maya version, the mia (mentalimagesarchitectural) shaders are developed by mentalimages and will appear in all mentalray integrations (max 9, xsi 6, maya 8.5).

probably the Alias guys didnt finalise the integration for maya8 or the shader wasnt ready
back then in july/august 06.

I’m late to this party
 wow what an all-in-one power packed shader. Thanks of course mostly to Master Zap, but thank you very much Calin (Yashu) for facilitating this for us, and on Maya 7, and making the PDF doc available, much appreciated. I’m still only learning all of the features, but I’m really pleased about a secondary feature: rounded corner shader. Over a year ago I asked in this forum if this could be possible to save on a lot of fine geometry (since perhaps only a knife’s edge actually has sharp corners), and here it is! Nice. Very basic low poly unbeveled extruded cube using only mia_material_roundc:

 this wasn’t in the readme.txt: add these lines in the appropriate place to your maya.rayrc file (in Maya’s installation mentalray dir.):

Is there somewhere a download file with explanation on how to install and tutorial on how to use and setup a file ? With dll files also for x64?

if you’ve properly installed the attrPresets, you can use the Presets button on the material in the Attribute editor.

this what i found at redme file and i do it
if something missing for setup pls tell me :eek:

copy the two dirs in Docs and Settings\maya\8.0\presets\attrPresets to make the presets appear in the AEditor “Presets*” button popup menu. If that folder does not exists then create it manually. The mia_material presets might proove useless now, as the mia_material is hidden.

I really love the shaders and the daylight system.
I have a few problems, I hope someone can help me.

  • MR satellite does not seem te work anymore. As soon as I use the arch system satellite does nog work anymore.
  • the shaders do not make a nice alpha channel

My other question is how to setup a nice interior lighting ? I have a room with quit small windows. When I setup the sky and the sun, together with the tonemapper i stays to dark in the room. I can raise the sky intensity and the sun intensity, but it still is to dark in the room and at the windows te bright. Also the things outside are now to bright.
Should I use GI as well ?

yassein, yes that’s it, it should work as per readme, same as step 4 in Yashu’s main readme.txt: “4. Copy the <maya/attrPresets> directory in <My Documents/maya/X.0/presets/attPresets>”. Or, of course, if you’ve installed everything in the Maya install directory for all users, then they would go in the presets\attPresets under the Maya Program Files directory.
