Physical Renderer Indirect Illumination missing in r20? [solved]

#1

I’m using r14 for production still and am slowly getting up to speed with r20. In r14 Physical render settings, there is a checkbox at the bottom for Indirect Illumination which activates some kind of GI and lets me render HDRI scenes with shadows and not have to add Global Illumination as an effect in the render settings. This works great and has very little noise in my animations.

In r20, that checkbox is completely missing and I can only seem to get shadows with HDRI using the Global Illumination effect and setting it to something like QMC for both primary and secondary. This is definitely not the same thing I was used to in r14. Has that checkbox been placed somewhere else or is there another way to get GI similar to the r14 method without the full GI settings?

Thanks!

I think you just have to add the Global Illumination Effect from the list in the render manager on the left. Its separate.

(the indirect illumination setting was just a basic GI setting–I beleive it used the same parameters --undfortunately you just have to work with the GI settings and dial in the effect you want)

Patrick Goski answered this perfectly a long time ago in this post, so rather than repeat it here, I’ll just link: https://www.cineversity.com/forums/viewreply/3779/

Thanks, everyone! That’s exactly what I was looking for.
