[photoreal character] Lensha - training DVDs girl & animation WIP
man… thanks for flattening my ego
but I’m really curious to hear some other opinions as well
hi loocas, ever tried to make some curled hair? maybe it would enhance her visual look, not fully curled, i mean partly…
somehow i have the feeling that most of the light is being absorbed around the hair region, maybe you could try to lighten it up? (or postprocessing is the guilty one, in that case drop that proposal :P)
hope you can saturate that blue a little bit (cloth part), it is too emphasized in my opinion…
i hope i don´t criticise too much, i love it anyways
- I haven’t gone that way since the girl in real life has straight hair, so it just never occured to me

- Oh, the lighting will be completely reworked, this is just a simple light rig being used for test rendering, the final will look much more natural

- The headband will stay the way it is (ofcourse it’ll get postprocessed), and the jumper won’t be blue in the end
i hope i don´t criticise too much, i love it anyways
- No, not at all
it’s great hearing some other unbiased opinions on my work, because I sometimes work so long on something I’m starting to loose track of things
Cheers mate!
looking good so far, loking clean and good uv’s, but far from photoreal like you said in the thread’s title.
Thanks ![]()
Yeah, it’s still a wip… I’m still gonna have to tweak the entire render and also I’ll be doing a lot of post-production after everything is finished, polished and rendered…
Oks… I’ve worked on the jumper a bit more… I’m kinda satisfied with it at this stage but the rendertimes are just unbearable… 03:58:23 is really too much…
So, I’m probably gonna have to stick with bump mapping only…

I like this alot - keep up the good work. Cool idea using the head band for a sig hahaha. Hair, turtleneck and mod/tex looks flawless
Matt
wow
the skin is very very nice. impressive work loocas! keep it up…looking forward to buy your tutorial dvd! cant wait to see your update!
Hey guys, thanks for the kind words
Oks, have worked on the portrait a little today and I did a ski-pass band for her just to give it that little extra touch
Here are the details:

I’m rendering the whole scene as I type, so I’ll post it asap…
Btw: C&C HIGHLY WELCOME! ![]()
All the objects look great individually, but I don’t know why, in the whole render they look very fake. I think that you should add better filtering to your textures, and make them a bit sharper.
Eye brows are a tad too dark, and IMO they should have a very subtle soft shadow under them. If you’re doing them as a separate plane, that’s easy through the opacity channel.
Also Specular in her skin should be a bit more random and “dotted”.
Anyways great work overall, can’t wait to see the result u’ll be putting on a DVD!!
Thanks for the crits DDS, much appretiated! ![]()
As for the eyebrows and overall hair/lighting etc… I put renders up here as they are, no tweaking, no post, no color correction. The lighting is just a few spots placed so that they illuminate the model so that I can see it
The lighting will get a heavy rework in the end, but for now, I don’t want to be waiting 3hrs for arealights to render etc…
The filtering is another issue, I’ve set it all up so that I can render it at A4@300dpi, this resolution just doesn’t make up for the detail therefore the textures may actually seem not detailed or not “random” enough etc… Take a look at the 100% scale renders
Btw: my DVDs are already OUT!
I’m just pushing this project to the finished piece… Check the first page, there are the DVDs displayed…
Anyways, I take your crits seriously and will try to improve those areas, I just wanted to point out that these are just test renders that most of the times take about 30s - 6min to render, the final piece will take AGES!
Oks… here’s the promised comp:

note: there’s no postproduction at all, this is exactly what felt-off finalRender
so, the color etc… will be fine-tuned in the end of course!
C&C ALWAYS WELCOME! ![]()
forget the bloody eyelids… this is amazing man. Your texturing skills are flawless loocas. I honestly have nothing else to say except :buttrock:
dont know why i noticed, but the nostril looks a little funny, and what happened to that awesome detail in the headband?
very nice work though
- Yes, that’s because 1) there’s no texture in that area (didn’t paint it) and 2) the ambient light illuminates it, if you’ve noticed on the few GI renders, you won’t be able to see inside the nostrils, hence the lack of texture detail…
and what happened to that awesome detail in the headband?
- Nothing
I just don’t render utilising MTD while doing test renders or while focusing on other aspects of the comp. The MTD takes terrible long time to render
I’ll boost it up in the final thou
don’t worry…
very nice work though
- Thank you
