Photo Real Glass human project

#1

Hi,
just starting to get into my final project at uni, the main aim for it is to produce a character i designed which is a photo real human with glassy, organic skin, at the modeling stage at the mo, done some test renders for the head tho, just wanted to get some feed back, see what you think. i am still a bit of a maya novice so it’s a bit rough, but practice makes perfect, i hope, lol.

Cheers,
Chris.

I like the way you’re taking it at the moment with the rough bits and what have you. I’d expect to see some more refraction going on there though, and you could also add some diffraction effects to make it more interesting. Whatever you do, make sure it doesn’t look like that bloody decongestant commercial!

Ha ha ha, i know what advert you mean, lol, no, i don’t want my character to look anything like that. just wondering, i want to have a more kind of layerd material for his skin, like a glass outer layer but with other textures, leafy vains etc underneath, with depth to it, but i dont want to have to model it because ive gotta animate him later, any ideas how to get that kind of material?

Hey ciff

Looking cool I would say thats a great start and please dont do the
cheesy generic glass in that ad LoL … actually it is a pretty cool ad
that glass girls is hot ! haha

Will look really cool with some nice textures attatched to it . You
have fluid effects dont you (u mentioned it on a earlier thread with dirkusrhombas)
… might want to look into using some funky fluids pluged into
your layered texture to create a nice shimering effect.

Do you get computerarts from future publishing? They had a
really cool tut on fluids a couple of issues back that you might like.

looks a bit “metalic” in some place,
but good start

Hi
Happy New Year people!
sorry long time no post, had internet probs, but i’m back now, yay. lol.
thanks for the advice Blue magic, just wondering, i’m still a bit of a maya novice, how would you plug a fluid effect into the layerd texture? sounds like a great idea tho.
Cheers.

PS: any idea how to get a vainy, blood vesscle struchure inside the glassy texture without having to model it, dunno how to make volume textures in maya :hmm:

To plug a fluid texture into that model you …
go into the hypershade
use middle mouse button to drag the fluid texture
onto the shader you have.

Vid explanation 1mb divx

A really usefull way to create animated textures is with
flash, its dead easy to create a black and white sequence of images
in flash with like a motion tween and then you could use those
images to guide some blobby particles for example. Kind of like
blood, or just use the textures to drive a bump or displacement map around
your model without any particles.

By the way I just saw a really cool advert on bbc1 with a glass gymnast
doing all these flips through water while walking on water and
then diving into the water. I think it was for lucozade and looked
really cool. Keep your eyes open for it. Might give you some ideas.

Thanks, i’ll give that a go, sounds cool.
I know the Lucozade ad u mean, awesome stuff, but its the Intro to the latest Bond film, the one with halley Berry in it  lol, which gave me most inspiration, it has ice woman walking around, with the ice cracking as she walks, check it out if u haven’t seen it. I’d love to know how they did it.
Cheers,
Chris.

Just checked out the trailers … looks cool but didnt get to see this
