People In Its Place / Quino, Carlos Agell Sogbe (3D)

Title: People In Its Place / Quino
Name: Carlos Agell Sogbe
Country: Venezuela
Software: CINEMA 4D, Photoshop

Heres a project that has been around my head since a long time, to take a drawing of one of the best Latinoamerican humorist and cartoonist: Joaquin Lavado “Quino” ( its mostly known around the world by its comic strip “Mafalda”, if you want to know more about Quino you can visit his website: http://www.quino.com.ar ), and interpret it as a 3D Scene keeping its main characteristic an style. The scene i choose is the cover of one of its best cartoon books called “Gente en su sitio” ( its something like “People in its place” in english) printed around 1979, and i like it cause as in most of Quino´s work presents a balance between a humor situation and a human drama. all the small details in the image were took in to account, also 3d modeling was pretty “loose” to achieve a similar style to Quino’s drawing style. the scene was entirely modeled and rendered in Cinema 4D with some color correction in Photoshop.

I hope you will enjoy it as much as i did making it.
cheers,
Carlos

I love the envirnment! the character to me is not nearly as cool as the background in my opinion

#3

Yea I agree with above crit. The character and the environment seem like they are different art styles, but only a bit. I love the modeling and the lighting for the environment and I think that the character is a fun stylized character! Great work, keep it up!

Absolutely brilliant congratulations:thumbsup:

Unique, love the style, cartooney and comedy, and the architecture may be a little different 2 the character, but I reckon it makes no difference

Lighting, Modeling & Texturing seem flawless to me

The Traditional Artwork is great

4stars from me!

yes a great work you make! This is the best painting I have seen today! by the way , a small critic from me , the environment, for example, the door and the window maybe need a bit noise i think. anyway , a so lovely painting!

excellent from concept to realisation. Congratulations.

i think the somewhat real look of the env is a good contrast to the cartoon like character. but then again, the apartment only seems realistic… the details are very cartoon-like - the oversized light switch, the power outlet, the green phone in the background, the very small lamp… all show a very good feeling for the ridiculous, which makes this very appealing to me as a cartoon. light and textures are brilliant. i just love all the details! bravo!

Great work! I like the adaptation

Congratulations

Very very very impressive. You just made a 5 stars scene of one of my favorite comic strips. I love Quino’s work and boy, was I surprised to see this here. Like the above posters said, very good environment and awesome detail. I also like the lighting very much.

5 stars from me! Quino himself would be impressed! :applause:

I’m a former cartoonist and I love Quino’s comics  I was gonna say “What a great cartoony style you have” :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it looks fabulous. I didn’t get the painting on the wall though. Is it just a lighter part of the wall which was covered by a painting before? In that case, why is the wire there?

The blanket’s texture seems a bit stretched so it looks almost elastic. I.e., the squares on the top of the knee look bigger than the ones near his feet.

But I think this is a very nice scene

I liked this very much. It makes a change from the usual over shiny renders.
