Pen tool is hard to control~!

#1

Hi everybody,

i got a confusion within the Flash pen tool for many years… Yes, until today bout the Pen tool.
Is der any method to control a Curve within 2 points not goin “weird” curve angle? It will cause a collide/cross between two lines which i dun want this result.

I duuno how to explain it well. Such as, In adobe illustrator we can use “Alt” to delete the angle adjustment before we plot a next new curve. But Flash We dun haf option to delete an angle adjustment. Normally a curve form by 2 points will be difficult time to control their curve with smoothness look. Else, create it then modify the line to look nice. But it slow down my tracing job…

THX…hope i state my problem clear…

why not just draw it in Illustrator and import it into Flash…?

i just had a play around in Flash…

if you use the white arrow AFTER you create the penned shape you can alt-left click to get rid of the angle so the point is a corner…but it does delete both curve handles…

you might want to try on a forum that’s dedicaded to flash…

thx for testing it out.

I guess der is no a good way comparing to the Adobe illustrator.

if it helps any, you can copy and paste from illustrator to flash, but it usually gets pasted in as a symbol, so you have to double click it a few times to get to each shape that was drawn in illustrator…

i’m not sure how it handles copy and pasting from freehand though…maybe it’s worth checking out…

yaya…i did tried cut & paste from Illustrator into Flash. SOmetimes(Just sometimes), it won’t paste excatly waht u trace in the Illustrator. Eg A road map… I got a condition wif some outline is different when import into Flash. After paste u will find many ‘groups’ of outlines.

Normally, after Import certain tracing artwork into Flash. I will Break the necessary part then re-group & give it a proper symbol name.

It is better to use Freehand to draw & paste into Flash. If no mistaken, it will auto-create Symbols for every segmentation of Outlines. FLash & Freehand is both Macromedia sw which will compatible to work together.

Until today, i only find out a way to draw proper outline… That is using
------Straight line------
After u draw all the straight line. Delete tos unused line. I will “touch-up” & stretch or make it curve beautifully. (This techniques is recommended for Many edges or sharp points objects.)

Why dun just use Pencil tools to draw? Yep. it is easier in sense. Firstly, mouse doesn’t draw well all d time. 2nd, it will produce many points later which is hard to create a smooth line.

how bout u?

hey dude…

if i’m drawing anything complicated in Flash, i’d usually draw by using shapes to “cut out” other shapes…when you draw 2 lines and make on 90 degrees to the other, so you have a cross…where they meet and cross over, they will both be split at that point, so you can delete the top half of the vertical line to make a t shape, for instance…

this is a completely basic example, and it can be a pretty powerful technique to use if you don’t already, especially if you use layers with this to keep placeholder shapes to use for later, so you can get layout right, etc…

does this help you in any way…?
