particles randomly swithching from one material to another

#1

Hello,

I have a 10 X 10 grid of particles and I’d need them to randomly change from one color to another… I’d like to get the effect of those old sci fi movie computers where lights on a grid blink on and of randomly.

It would be great if I could control the timing of these since I wouldn’t want the switching to happen too rapidly…

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Bercon’s Gradient map should be a big help:

You can add the colors you want to the gradient, set it to Random, and animate the seed.

Or if you only want individual particles to change color, you can set it to color by particle age, and write a script to assign a random age to random particles at random intervals, but that would probably take quite a bit of tweaking to get right.
