parti_volume and MR SkyPortal - not rendering

Hey guys,

i experience heavy issues when trying to render an indoor scene with parti_volume in the global camera effects (renderer tab of mental ray) and an mr sky portal in front of the window bringing the HDR-Lighting from the environment into the room. Well, simply put: It doesnt work! when i start to render, mental ray hangs at a 100% and keeps showing “rendering” but nothing happens. i can easily cancel, it is just stuck at starting to render.

the same also happens when i use a camera instead of the perspective view. here i use the camera shaders in the mental ray rollout as well since i dont know how to apply a camera shader to a particular camera in 3ds max. i also use a metric scene scale (set to meters) and i tried this with both a skylight and FG on (use existing skylight set in the portal light in that case) and “use existing environment” set in the portal light with no skylight and FG off. it just never starts the rendering.

Do you know why this is not working? is the mr sky portal unsupported in the parti_volume shader? i hope not, because i want to create some real and nice photometric volume light; standard lights just dont serve for this, they only have a single color, thats bad - always!
