well… I come back after a holiday week… and with bad news in fact.

Since around 1 month, the new hoster I have since july 2007 said there’s too much trafic on the websites (personal, textures, expo, blog… and links averywhere)…

…for him, only one solution, the big dedicated server… and of course… the most expansive… !

That make many weeks, and tens of mails… and I can’t have a good answer, nor a good explanation if really my website have too much trafic.

Each time, it’s the same answer, not the answer to the good question, and any proof about the trafic… each time… it’s you must take a dedicated server… the expansive one !

I don’t not if it’s really true, or moreover a commercial pressure… for me… it’s truly commercial…
Of course, many people comes everydays on my websites… and if I take a look to the log files… it’s under the limit of the service I take.

During these weeks… the websites continue to work, but very slowly…
Since yesterday, they cut all ! I already have the FTP access… but only… the domain name I take : lemog.fr doesn’t work now… and of course… all the links made here since the last july 2007 are broken.

The projetct is not stopped… but I must acknoledge to lose a bit of motivation… I’ve less and less time… and I msut redo all !
…and that make almost 1 month I don’t modelize for the project !

For the moment, I’ve replaced the most important part of the website on 2 differents server…

for the moment, the textures website is not online… not enough place and ressources…

and the blog… is dead. This one was heberged since the hoster and since yesterday, I can’t connect on it to save the data…

I’m very sorry… but I think you understand my actual lack of motivation… even if these websites are not “all” is this project… that remain a large part of my motivation… that usually push me well…

I will do my best to repare as I can… this week… while hoping to restart the 3d construction next week… maybe…

Ouch! This is indeed bad news! And it explains why I couldn’t get to your site yesterday when I was to check upon you there…
How about seeking some sponsors to get a dedicated server? I’m sure there are plenty of us willing to contribute to your project.
You’ve given the community so much for so long time that this could a good time for the community to support you back.
Get yourself a Paypal account and a “Donate” option on your sites and I believe your financial problems may be solved.

As for your motivation to continue, I understand well if you.re getting tired - but remember the further you go the more rewarding the final will be.

For the moment, I wait the answer of a possible partner… interested, but I wait his anwser since a couple of weeks… ? ! ?

The solution could be the Paypal donatation… even if I don’t like to ask money… but it’s certainly the good solution…

One thing is sure… the project must restart of course… too much work is done… I can’t stop… even if the motivation’s level is a bit low… the passion is always at the top :thumbsup:

…and my life need new images :scream:

the high storage is not the problem… mine was enough… but it’s more the brandwidth and ressources used… the average was around 60 000 visitors by months… you can imagine the number of pages viewed… and the trafic !

I’m will wait the answer of the partner… and I will take a decision at the end of the week… :thumbsup:

These are of course not the good news, very annoying to have such problems with your webspace and the broken links ( though they seem to be back now:bounce: !).
I think Gunies suggestion is a good one, you should ask for donation and I still think it’s strange that you can not find a sponsor, at least for the webspace…a project that has already so much attention!
But I really hope you’re not too much distracted from all this and that you can renew your motivation.
I can assure you that I was very delighted yesterday to find the “Vieux Paris”-test animation:thumbsup: , of course I love it and it’s just unthinkable that you stop the project now…

Hope there are some good news for you soon!

lemog, you’re work here is truly inspiring. How do you fight the temptaion to “just do what it takes” to finish it quickly. Maybe you do not have this temptation. I however am at the front end of what will realistically take me a year to complete and feel the urge to try and hurry up to get whatever task I am doing out of the way so I can get to the next task that I can hurry up and get out of the way etc. Fortunately I have been able to stave off the temptation and do it right. In any case, I am a huge admirer of your work. Great job, keep it going!

Glad you like the animation-test for the Vieux Paris… that make much time it was finished… but with this website story, I’ve forgotten to post it…

Actually, I’ve restarted to work on the Vieux-Paris… but very slowly because I must prepare 2 animations test about the first part… for an exposition at the end of 2008… these tests must be ready for the march 12… very hot :wink:

I will show some images soon…

em3 -> about the temptation to finish quickly… it’s certainly because the most important part in this project is not the 3d… but really the historical work… this project go further than a simple 3d realization…
…and the subject is a big big passion…
