Painting color/bump/spec map?

#1

I’m trying to paint a convincing face for a character I made, but it never turns out the way I intend to. It keeps getting this make-up look, regardless of how subtle I try to aply the color. Here’s a picture of the character with basic materials aplied:

I am using Bodypaint 2 for painting, wich should be one of the better apps suited for this sort of thing, but unfortunatly they didn’t discuss how to paint facial maps in the video tut’s.

I was hoping on some general tips to make it look more realistic. I am using a mouse but I’m sure that’s not the problem…

Thanks!

Did you see the sticky post by Leigh?

Yes, I did. I read through it about halfway a while ago (absolutely stunning maps floating around there) but it’s something for the more advanced users…

I like to recieve some tips to get me on my way. So I know what to practise and get better at. There must be a big diffrence between what I’m doing and what they’re doing. I like to know what they’re doing diffrent.

All my lips come out like lipstick, no matter what color or hardness I use (or so it seems).

Any and all obvious or less obvious tips are very much apriciated…!
