Painting an eye (tutorial/exercise)

#228

Thank you Linda, I agree with everyone here about your generous tutorial and follow ups, this is exactly what my self-taught arse needed to find… I love this place, just joined today and found this… how lucky for me, I know! Here’s my hour or so attempt, I think I need to get waaaay darker, but I’m really enjoying it.

What a fantastic tutorial!

Here was my try at the eye, it took me a while (5 hours, as I’m not that good with the tablet) but I enjoyed the process, and I don’t think the outcome was that bad. Thanks for the lovely tutorial.

I forgot to say that I made this eyes with a “traditional” mouse and a touchpad…not with a graphic pad! :stuck_out_tongue:

Linda, thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial! And for other tutorials you did. I admire your art for a long time, finally got here and found out this thread

I’ve started to draw non-human eyes (elven-to-be) before I’ve found your tutorial. They are still a WIP (since May’05). Before I tried to paint these eyes I wasn’t aware of so many details about eyes, some important parts were missing  I’m still learning and need really work on anatomy and shading, your tutorial helped with eye’s anatomy a lot! The portraits need to be redone anyway.
I tried to finish this elven eyes idea with your tutorial and almost did it - almost, because I focused on eyes so strong, that I messed with the rest of face. But I’m glad with the eyes, so here is a whole set to compare - the top 2 are the mentioned non-human eyes, the rest was done with your tutorial. I used my old tablet which ‘helped’ me to achieve the square iris  (Actually these are 2 base pairs of eyes repainted into 5.) I treat the 2 bottom pairs as finished. I missed some details and I’ve stolen your idea of non-rounded pupils from the skin tones tutorial example drawing. It really fits elven eyes in my head. Link:

Wow, I know this post is really old, but I just went through all the steps. Heres my eye! This is a fantastic tutorial from a fantastic artist!!!

#235

Hehe yeah it is an old thread
Heres mine :
I kinda slacked off on the last couple steps as you can see…
but it was still very edu-mo-cational.
beofre and after colour adjustments to play around. I did a few different skintones with this eye. good practise.
Churs Enayla  word up

Yes I totally agree with everybody - this is great tutorial and very informative, but could u or some1 explain to me how this hair / skin-dots-texture brushes are made or constructed ?

…and here’s my first digital painting ever (only standard PS brushes, and only opacity set to pen pressure - I’m a real newbie :applause: )

maybe a little bit late posting here but…

i just wanna thank you a lot Linda! Impressive and very useful tutorial. It was also helpful to read how a brush work with other shape dynamics and settings.

But back to Topic…

Now an tryout which i´ve done some months ago, created in ps 7.0 and with optical mouse, thats why i partly must use some other techniques to get this final result here:
