anyone else having issue of slowdown when painting 8k textures? am using only one layer to paint my model yet everything just got masssively slow
Painting 8k textures
for 8k painting you need more that 2gb von VRam…
i would recommend using multiple 2k or 4k maps… much faster also during rendering…
do you know if its the same to paint on the highest subdivision level as it would be on he lowest or middle level subdivision level?
take a look at the bottom right… there you see your GPU ram usage…
if the gpu ram usage is near the 4gb painting o a higher polycount is much slower…
do you really need a 8k texture…?
what are you painting…?
I am creating some assets that will be used in a game as asteroids in space but really upclose, thanks for the tip! i never thought about the gpu ram usage being on the lower right hand corner
i have another question, how can i properly extract maps from an object such as this one with all its maps without having artifacts? my objects as you see are in 3 parts but all apart of the same object. i tried before to extract the texture maps and the normal map and the ambient occlusion map turned out really ugly with some surfaces being perfect and some really bad
for a game… you dont need more than a 512 map maybe 1k for those rocks…
think there is no game game out there with 8k support… most of them dont even load 4k…
i assume your uvs are bad… may i see them…
actually i figured what it is, when part of the object casts a shadow on the another then that area in shadow will be very dark especially if you turn up the dark settings for occlusion, the engine we use supports any size texture and handles them very well, for this project we do need high res textures and i think 4k was enough on this one here are some images, one from the game engine and one from mudbox, we needed high res because its the main stage
