Paint weights tool problem

Hi

I’ve checked pretty much all the posts on the paint weights tool troubleshooting. Cant find a solution to my problem.

I have been given a rigged character with IK, FK, Blendshapes and spine clusters. I need to transfer the rig onto new geometry.

The transfer goes fine, i re-bind, copy weights and everything works except for the biceps, which are deforming incorrectly. I select the model and open the paint weights tool, but it doesn’t work… I can’t tweak the biceps. Paint skin weights doesn’t work, you click a joint and nothing changes. There is a red cross on the tool.

Any ideas?

Any help would be super appreciated

Found out what it was… at least i think, so far.

The character had some invisible controls (Left breast, left bicep, right breast, right bicep) which were parented to joints and then they had their influences locked, I’m assuming this was to prevent anyone messing with the weights.

Has anyone seen this technique used before?

I’ve deleted these controls and the weights are now editable… but if anyone thinks thats a crazy idea please let me know!

you can unlock weignts in the paint weight tool , just select the joint and then in the bottom of the list of the joint in the paint weight tool you van see the unlock buttton . hope that helps.
