Paint skin weight after Separate

Hello,

I have a problem for skinning problem, i have a model and it was already skinned, then i want the head become a separate mesh, so i did Mesh=>Separate, then after that want to fix some skin on the head, it have a “Cross” on the cursor, and i cant paint anymore, i have try to delete non-deform history, it’s still doesnt work, may anyone can help me please

well one to handle this would be to paint on the combined shapes and then copy weights from the combined piece to the separated pieces… I use this alot.

becasue i have a problem for copy weight, i have tried export weight, but it have a error below:

// Error: Failed to export the attribute map. //

so i dont know how to do.

you don’t want to export the maps… basically you’d duplicate the geo that is going to be separated, separate it and then bind it back to the original skeleton leaving the original combined geo skinned. This way you can use copy weights from the edit smooth skin menu. Since the verts are all in the same locations and the joints are in the same position you get an exact transfer of weights.
